A local environment group is still fighting to keep the Ontario Tree Seed Plant in Angus open.

The provincial government announced earlier this year that they would close the plant in September of next year.

AWARE Essa has gathered 7,000 names on a petition they plan to present to the Premier Kathleen Wynne as well as Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry Kathryn McGarry.

AWARE was at Essa Council last night ask the municipality to add their voice to those opposed to the closure

Janet Lord-Genyk is with AWARE and made a presentation to council.

She adds closing the facility will mean more than just a few jobs lost and a small savings for the province.

Simcoe Grey MPP Jim Wilson also brought up the subject during questions period at Queen's Park this week.
