As part of Media Studies, Grade 2 students at Baxter Central Public School discovered that dress codes, religion and peer pressure play a big role in what people wear on a daily basis.

Andrew Morrison is the Special Education Resource Teacher at the school.

He says many of the students were surprised to learn that some jobs force women to wear high heels, while some students feel ostracized for not wearing the popular brand of the moment.

So his students decided to do something about it and have proclaimed Thursday (may 17) Comfortable Clothing Day to give everyone a chance to wear something they really want too.

Morrison says it is unfortunate that many students feel the pressure to fit in, and says fashion is a major culprit.

He hopes that next year Comfortable Clothing Day will be added to the international registry of recognized days.
